Rules.

Stepping: Once holding the ball, a player can not take a step. This means that once the player had landed, with the ball in hand, they must keep at least one foot planted on the ground. The player cannot jump, step, or drag their foot.
Obstruction: A player who is defending must be at least 0.9m away from the player who holds the ball.
Contact: Netball is considered a non-contact sport, which means that a player can not make physical contact with another player if it hinders that persons ability to play the ball.
Offside: A player is considered to be offside if any part of their body touches the ground in an area where they are not permitted to play.
The 3 second rule: Once a player has caught the ball they have 3 seconds to either pass it, or shoot for a goal. If a player holds the ball for longer than 3 seconds they are penalised.
Penalty pass or shot: A penalty awarded to an attacker within the attackers goal circle can be taken as either a pass or a shot for goal. The opponent who infringed must stand down (where the umpire has indicated).
Playing area: The lines of the court are considered part of the playing area.
Throw in: If the ball goes out of the playing area, a player must take the ball, stand close to the line outside the playing area (position indicated by umpire), and then throw the ball into play within 3 seconds.
Position of players at start of game: The player playing the position of centre must be standing within the centre circle, and must pass the ball within 3 seconds of the umpires whistle to start play. All other players must be behind the lines.
Umpires: The game of netball has only two umpires, and these two umpires make all the decisions throughout the game.
